Keegan logs into Wordpress on his domain for the first time.
The empty blog post box brings a smattering of questions he starts to ask himself. Where do I start? What should I say? Why would anybody read this? Why I am using a PHP-based application in the 2010's? Am I right or amiright?
Yet Keegan is eager to learn. For that which is unknown much is to be explored.
[[Help Keegan write a blog post.]]"One of the newest additions to the online learning environments at the University of Oklahoma..."
Congrats! Keegan has published his first blog post titled <a href="https://keeganslw.com/hello-world-2/" target="_new">Learning On Janux Tutorial Videos</a>.
He stands up and begins walking towards his next faculty consultation with a slight pep in his step. Though it was only the mere push of a "publish" button, Keegan feels accomplished.
As he's walking, he passes a mirror hanging on the wall. It stops him dead in his tracks.
Keegan approaches the mirror. Standing no more than a foot away, he slowly turns his head left and examines his slightly grown out, wavy, golden blonde hair.
He turns his head right to check for even symmetry.
A tad embarrassed, and looks around to see if anyone is watching him. Nope. Everybody has already left for their meetings, so luckily he stands alone checking himself out in the mirror.
He looks forward and thinks to himself, "My hair is clearly longer."
He begins to ponder.
"Could it be that writing in public makes my hair grow?"
[[Skip meeting to write another blog post.]]
[[Decide to go to meeting.]]
Phenomenal! Keegan publishes a second blog post. He checks to see if his hair has grown longer, and indeed it has.
Keegan hypothesizes that blogging makes his hair grow. And in his hair holds the power of sharing knowledge. It's as if his hair can save higher education. Some have suspected that in ten years there will only be a handful higher ed institutions left. But not if Keegan has anything to do with it!
Keegan has an idea. He will write. And those blog posts will then be packaged as larger works of knowledge. Keegan has realized that he knows how to save higher education.
And the answer is: Open educational resources.
[[Write a few more blog posts to create an OER]]Woooooow, you chose for Keegan to attend the meeting. Well now that blog post will have to wait. Keegan will probably even lose his idea.
[[Skip meeting to write another blog post.<-Make up an excuse to leave the meeting early so Keegan can go write!]]You've published your first fully open educational resource! It's called Games Offer Bold Learning Insights Nowadays or GOBLIN for short. Hey, Keegan is in higher ed. He likes acronyms, ok?!
Keegan hair is now practically shoulder length. This is a really impressive mane. All the sudden his hair is being worshipped for its ability to teach faculty all over the world how to write games. And for free! Keegan is a real, modern day Kris Kringle.
You can't help Keegan play GOBLIN the Game. Because a game inside a game seems a little too complex for your faithful author to write. But what you can do is write more OERs.
[[Write more OERs]]Oh no. Keegan's hair has gained too much of a following. His web server has crashed. Keegan is now in a panic.
The only thing that could possibly save the work now is a server doctor.
[[Call the server doctor]]<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Yx1WSYBfhzM?autoplay=1&modestbranding=1&showinfo=0&rel=0" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe>
[[Continue.]]"Wow, the server doctor wasn't incredible helpful," thinks Keegan. "Cute kid though."
The poor guy has become so disenfranchised about the OER movement that he can't see the joy that Keegan's hair is bringing everyone around the world.
"It's probably worth getting a second opinion," says Keegan.
[[Get a second opinion.]]<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Z5qNy854QdA?autoplay=1&modestbranding=1&showinfo=0&rel=0" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe>
[[Continue forward.]]"Cut my hair?" questions Keegan. "But then all of my power will be gone."
Yet Keegan realizes that his cutting his hair is necessary in order for the academy to survive. Because textbook costs.
[[Cut Keegan's hair.]]{
(print: "<script>$('html').removeClass(\)</script>")
(if: (passage:)'s tags's length > 0)[
(print: "<script>$('html').addClass('" + (passage:)'s tags.join(' ') + "'\)</script>")
]
}It's working the server is starting to come back online! Keegan can see the files but they are still not accessible!
[[Cut more hair.]]Little by little, the server is coming back! The files are now accessible but the server is a little slow! Last cut will bring the memory back!
[[Make a last cut!]]<img src="http://adamcroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/KeeganStaples-600x450.jpg"></img>
As it turns out, the power didn't exist in Keegan's hair. And yet he was willing to sacrifice himself for our joy. Enjoy Keegan's OERs below.

[[Conclusion and Credits]]Story and game by <a href="http://adamcroom.com">Adam Croom</a>.
This story is about a good friend of mine, <a href="http://keeganslw.com">Keegan Long-Wheeler</a>. He brings a ton of joy through his use of the open web and through sharing formally and informally.
This is my feeble attempt of sharing a story for him in a way that he'll appreciate.
Special thanks to <a href="http://www.johnastewart.org/coding/keegans-game-jam/">John Stewart</a> for organizing this game jam. Also thank you to <http://bavatuesdays.com>Jim Groom</a> and <a href="http://timowens.io/">Tim Owens</a> for making special guest appearances.
Last, thanks to Keegan. He wrote a <a href="https://keeganslw.com/i-made-my-first-game/">blog post</a> about creating his first game, and I actually used that blog post and game to do some custom CSS work for this game. It all comes around.
Keegan, we love you!
